Transition to High School Workshop Series
This summer, REACH Prep's Director of High School Programs, Aimee Rincon, and Director of Middle School Programs, TJ Ramirez, led two workshops to help 8th grade students and parents navigate the transition to high school. The first workshop provided an overview for students and parents of what to expect in high school. From academics, to extracurriculars, to study habits, parents and students received information and advice about what to expect in high school and how to successfully navigate these topics. The highlight of the presentation was led by a panel of recent REACH Prep high school graduates, who provided their anecdotal information and guidance for those in attendance. Parents and students asked a variety of questions, and received honest and informative answers from the high school class of 2017.
In August, Aimee and TJ conducted the second part of their High School Transition Workshop Series. This workshop was for students to learn more about how to navigate high school both socially and academically while maintaining a healthy social and emotional state of mind. Stephanie Bramlett, Director of Inclusive Excellence and Leadership at St. Luke’s School, led the social-emotional transition discussion, and Ali Morgan, Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Rye Country Day School, led the academic transition piece. In addition, current REACH Prep high school students led student breakout sessions, which focused on candid discussions about what students should expect as they enter high school. Julia Hyman, REACH Prep Advisor and Alumna, facilitated team-building activities with the group. The workshop culminated with a community service project at the Chester Addison Community Center in Stamford.
