Kevin Collado

RP Cohort 13
Rye Country Day School ‘14
Hobart and William Smith Colleges ‘18

“REACH Prep has helped me in my educational journey from the very beginning by providing me with an invaluable support system and the necessary resources. In addition to my parents, REACH Prep had been the driving force behind my educational accomplishments, instilling in me the value of an education and allowing me to believe in the significant role that it has and continues to have in my success.”

During his time at HWS, Kevin became a Resident Assistant for two years, worked as a Student Leader for the IT Services department, volunteered as a facilitator for a social justice youth group as a part of the organization Rural and Migrant Ministries, worked as a staff member for the academic-intensive summer program Environmental Studies Summer Youth Institute (ESSYI), and tutored elementary school children with America Reads.  Kevin also served on the boards of Girl Up and the Latin American Organization, was Co-President of Hobartones A Capella, sang in the Colleges' Chorale and Cantori ensembles, participated in an Alternative Spring Break program, served as a co-coordinator for the First Generation Initiative, participated in the local grassroots group Tools for Social Change, and still found time to play intramural and club soccer.

Kevin was selected by the city of Geneva, NY to address food security and access issues in the city’s most impoverished neighborhoods through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. With a family background in the supermarket business, interests in urban planning and community organizing, and a passion for helping others, Kevin naturally gravitated toward this opportunity to make a difference within his community.
